A TRIP TO WHERE? (Part 1)

PLAN ā€œAā€ NEVER WORKED ā€“ A TRIP TO ā€œWHERE?ā€

These are the details of a three day journey that includes traveling along with the incidents and real life scenarios that we really faced and enjoyed in an exciting tour.

The details are in as much sequence as Iā€™ve remembered and I hope that this endeavor will give us all the memorable experiences must not to be forgotten at all. This log narration is all about three friends go out on a vacation to enjoy and for whom Plan ā€˜Aā€™ never worked.

It all started when we handed our final MBA project. Seven group members decided to plan for a trip that provide us highly effective and economical quality entertainment available in the evergreen Valley of Kashmir, to cure our tensions and deficiencies, making the environment conducive to live as we believe that healthy minds can only operate if used and they do need time out to remain fresh. We deem our most precious asset is our decision making abilities and we encourage BILAL Khan (One Batch Junior), who was a travel agent by profession to lead, develop, and execute a plan. Although we were aware of his leadership competency and managerial skills, we decided to go with our decision to draw this Plan A for us.Ā  We were only thinking about how to survive and excel to meet rewarding challenges in our individual and collective adventure. The time was flowing like River Nile and we were searching for a life saving boat to sail us through quickly as we were consistently losing comrades in our ranks with every passing day.

Suddenly One Day (April 23rd 2004)

Ringā€¦. Ringā€¦. Ringā€¦. my cell phone started to ring and it was BILAL on the other end. The first thing that came into my mind was that he must have again landed in some problem at the college with some project not taking off again.

Amid all my woes the thing that he inquired me was

BILAL: ā€œwhat are you doing in May holidays? as we got three consecutive holiday First on May 01 for the labor day then on May 02 as it was Sunday and last on May 03 for EID MILAD UL NABIā€

Me: ā€œNothing as Usual, making marketing plan for a productā€

BILAL: ā€œOk then we are going on for a camping trip to PIR CHANASI near MUZAFFARABAD; ZEESHAN has agreed to proceed with the plan.ā€

Me: ā€œWhat about others?ā€

BILAL:Ā ā€œNo one else is willing to goā€

Me: Itā€™s too early to make a commitment as the Convocation of Imperial College was coming up on April 29th 2004.

BILAL: ā€˜GARDEZI you are goingā€™

That was his last comments before disconnecting.

Well I thought for a while about how such adventure plans were made during our MBA studies with no Action Plan and Contingency plan ever worked out for us so that was another plan in making that wouldnā€™t work along. A smile broke on my face as the plan sounds cool but memories of those moments of planning that failed in execution stage was haunting me.

April 29th 2004

The Convocation day arrives and no meeting or contact with ZEESHAN and BILAL as both unable to attend due to job related reasons.

April 30th 2004

I was stuck at my brothers work place due to rain, suddenly two customers came in and was talking about their plan about going to NARAN for the vacations that recalls my mind about dialogue with BILAL about a week back. I called, on his cell it was around 4:30 P.M, and Inquired about the plan, the reply wasnā€™t one expected,

BILAL:Ā ā€œthe booking has been made on Daewoo for Rawalpindi at 2:00 A.M. and GARDEZI be ready with my luggage and reach the terminal on time.

Me:Ā ā€œAre you Nut how can I do that my car was at the workshop and rain donā€™t seem to have the mood to stop down and who else is goingā€.

BILAL:Ā ā€œThatā€™s not my Problem reach the terminal on time. Only me, you and ZEESHAN goingā€

I told him ok Iā€™m coming, as I too want some days out from Lahore for a change and fun. To make things worse the rain continued to pour until 8:00 p.m. when I reached my home at around 8:45 P.M. another challenge was waiting for me and that too due to rain and thanks to LESCO my locality was without the electricity. Then I called KHIZER and Harris to inquire and pursue them to join us in this journey but unfortunately or fortunately both of them expressed their non availability. KHIZER was attending neither mobile nor Home number while Harris was going to HARIPUR with ALEEM Khan.

I left for my cousin house to pick some hiking equipment, as he was a member of adventure foundation Pakistan. I called BILAL that Iā€™ll reach Daewoo Bus Stand around 1:30 a.m. and asked him to buy ticket even if Iā€™m a little late in reaching there.

May 01st 2004 (Saturday) 1:30 A.M

I reached there on time and found both of them waiting in the lounge. BILAL was accompanying a Camp, three sleeping bags, and iron rods. We got our tickets from the Daewoo towards Rawalpindi.Ā  The Fellowship of the Ring was formed. The bus left for Rawalpindi on time and we settled in our seats that were at the end of the bus as I occupy the center with ZEESHAN on my right and BILAL on left side. The discussion starts from the happenings at the Imperial College convocation and especially gossiping about whoā€™s dating whom recently. At the end of the first hour both of them have slept and I followed them very shortly. We woke up as the bus stop at the Motorway Restaurant for 20 minutes. I look around and find them both in deep sleep so I decided to go out and have a light. It was about 3:45 a.m. and there were around eight coaches standing at the restaurant. The bus returns to the road and I rejoined my sleeping friends.

Around 6:30 a.m. we reached Rawalpindi and started looking around to find a transport that would take us to our destination. BILAL started dialing his mobile phone (he dialed too much on the tour) and called his cousin for guidance but to no avail. We went to PIR WADHAI but no transport was available for MUZAFFARABAD so we decided to move towards FAIZABAD. But that too proved to be a fruitless exercise as no conveyance was available for Kashmir there either. We decided that enough is enough and as we were already feeling some butterflies in our stomachs we decided to have breakfast first and then find transport to go back.

As our empty stomach started to fill with Omelet, PARATHA, and Tea we realize that going back home is an option that will put us in List of Big Loserā€™s of all time and we decided to drain our brains out for alternatives. One idea generated was to go to Lake SAIF ā€“UL- MALOOK. ZEESHAN was quick to cast his vote in favor but BILAL wasnā€™t fine with the idea at all. The Fellowship was broken and we revolted against him. We moved around to find if any transport is heading towards NARAN and we find that the earliest route available will go around 10:00 am so we have to wait around 2 hours. After watching ominous face of BILAL we decided that we should check Karachi Company Bus ADDA and try to find a vehicle that carry us to MUZAFFARABAD, and failing in the mission will result in all of us going to NARAN.Ā  We all agreed to the plan and the Fellowship of the ring was again formed. The plan fails again and we didnā€™t find a transport there either so we decided to move towards NARAN,

We were about to wait for the Wagon when suddenly a group asked us to accompany them to MANSEHRA by sharing the rent of Wagon chartered by them at FAIZABAD, and finally we left Islamabad.
