The family of these type of spiders is quite big and contains around 31 species and known as the Lactrodectus. They are found in all the warm & temperate regions of the world. They live under rocks, logs, in pipe lines and any place that is dark. These are the Spiders that are identified by the presence of a hourglass shaped mark on their abdomens most of the time or sometimes there can be no marks at all or it can be round shaped but whenever they are present they are in red color. The Black Widow Spider are those arachnids (not insects) that are extremely poisonous and are the bite is  much feared due to the presence of unusually large venom glands, whose secretions are believed to be 15 times more stronger than the Rattle Snake.

Female Blak Widow Spider wikipedia.org

The Spider, infact Black Widow Spider, among the famous Spiders to be feared in North America and Canada got its name by its activity of eating its male counterpart right after mating. It will lay almost 300-400 eggs in cacoon in the centre of the large web and the spider-lings are not dangerous or poisonous but they have the bad habit of eating each other (cannibalism). they fed on flies, small insects like cricket & moth and small reptiles as well. When the prey is trapped it injects the digestive juices and venom in to it, that not only kills it but also liquefies its body for easy ingestion.

If this feared Spider bites an adult human being all it causes to human is a little muscle ache, accompanied by nausea and paralysis of diaphragm that can produce dyspnea (difficulty in breating). Now, contrary to the firm belief that the “people fear spiders more than they fear Death”, these little arachnids bitten humans didn’t suffer any serious damage, but bites can be dangerous to the children. Fortunately the death as per bites are very rare and low due to these spiders.

I have to say, a lot of these responses strike a real chord with me but many peoples responses seem to get a bit too aggresive if you do not agree with their feelings.
