Immortal life for us lies in constant travelling

People belonging to the first school of thought look at the sad and gloomy aspect of a life. The say that life is full of suffering, pain and death. To them life is a series of regrettably bad accidents. Man is helpless in the hands of destiny. He is just a plaything in the eyes of fate. Fate can shatter him into pieces as and when it likes. Man has to face many hardships in his life. Life is a journey through high mountains and across vast deserts without water, food, greenery and any comforter. The world is hedged about with mystery and enmity. There is looting, killing fraud and deception all around. According to them life is not worth living as it is suffering and pain from its beginning to the end. An advocate of this belief says:

“Nothing begins, and nothing ends,

That is not paid with moan;

For we are born in other’s pain,

And perish in our own.”

There are two schools of thought Pessimistic and Optimistic—about the nature of life.

Pessimistic point of view about life

Life is pain from beginning to end

Hardships, failure, mystery and enmity

Optimistic point of view about life

Life is a challenge

It presents newness

It enables us to do great deeds

It is worth living (moral and social value)

But life form an optimistic point of view appears very charming and fascinating. I often sit on the roof of my house at night and gaze at the twinkling stars. To me even a dark night appears very fascinating. Life presents beauties of nature. The world around us is extremely enchanting. Roberts says:

“Ever just over the top of the next brown rise

I expect some wonderful thing of flatter my eyes”.

An optimist marches forward with great expectations of finding something new at every turn of the road and every summit of the mountain. The hardship on the way presents challenges, and the life to me without challenges is no life. Success can only be achieved by accepting toil, turmoil, turbulence and tests. The hard work and labour we have to put in to march forward on the road of life add charm to life. A brave man is not discouraged by hardships, rather he invites hardships. Allama iqbal says:

“A free man does not like to live,

In a world created by others.

Break in pieces the world that does not suit you,

Make another world out of the depth of your heart”.

Life is blessing of God.  To think it unworthy of living would be unrewarding. Lives of great men are a proof that life is worth living, provided your life is spent doing service to mankind. If a person is charitable, helpful, loving and forgiving to his fellow begins, he is living and his life is worth living. A flower has very short life but it spreads fragrance around it. It pleases the eyes and adds charm and beauty to the earth. Isn’t its life worth living? A nightingale which sings pleases the ears disappears, isn’t its life worth living? Yes why should then a man think that his life is not worth living? Actually who takes life as pain; suffering and sorrow have not properly understood the meaning of life. Life is not idleness, peace and calm. It is continuous struggle. It is not only worth living but also worth enjoying. Iqbal says:

“Do not seek the end of journey, for you note

As soon as you reach the end, you lose yourself.

Not to reaches the end is life;

Immortal life for us lies in constant travelling.”
