The Mud Volcano

The excretions of earth? seems unfamiliar? Yes! it is. It really not only sounds crazy but seema a little out of this world thing. But the reality is that earth really do that geo-excretion thing. These geo excretions can be either in liquid form or gases. So, the words life Mud Dome, Mud Volcano are used for the areas that are rich in that type of activity that leads to the formation of bubbling mud thing. There are many processes that lead to the activity like this. The Hot water actually get mixed to mud and deposits at the surface. Mud Volcanoes are ussually found at the subduction zones and about 700 are being discovered. Temperatures as compared to the live Volcanoes are much cooler in these.


It is believed that these structures have roots that are very deep sometimes to many Kilometers underground and they serve as the check valves of the high underground pressures.

The healing powers of the liquefied mud oozing out from these structures are very well known and an established fact, especially when it comes to skin issues that is the best remedy if it is accessible. The gases that usually gives company to these liquefied mud are 86% methane with very less amount of nitrogen and carbon dioxide emission. mostly these deposits are associated with petroleum deposits. according to an estimation there are around 1100 mud volcanoes on earth either on the shallow water or on the land. As per calculated research it is stated that there may be 10000 or more on the continental slopes or abyssal plains.

It is found mainly in Europe (Ukraine, Italy Romania),  Asia (Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Iran Phillipines, China), North America and South America (Venezuela & Combodia). Infact the largest and the highest of the Mud Volcanoes is present in Baluchistan, Pakistan. Pakistan totally have 80 mud volcanoes and all of them are in Baluchistan.

Gryphon (Mud extruding cone shorter than 03 meters with steep sides),

Mud Cone (Mud and rock extruding high cone shorter than 10 m),

Scoria Cone (cone that is developed due to heating of mud deposits by fire),

Salse (gas seeping water dominated pools),

Spring (smaller than 0.5 m water dominated pools)
