Biggest Aircraft of the World (Top 5)

Aircraft, an invention and a blessing both at the same time. It is all because of the wright Bothers efforts that let the development of the modern aircraft and finally made this planet a global village, where you can visit Singapore and New York both in one day. So, as this industry progresses there are many new additions and companies are making there way in this business with huge investment to this sector. that finally give rise to Russian War craft that are used in first world war and finally leads to the passenger big Aircraft.

While going through the latest development in the aircraft industry i just passed through the line “largest and biggest passenger airliner in the World, Airbus A380”, finally that opens my research on the biggest aircraft of the world and what i came to know after a thorough research on google was different. Let me share my research world on the above said article.

01- Antonov An – 225 Mriya:- It is the Biggest and massive flying machine of the world built and used by Russia and Ukraine with a wind span of  290 feet and length of around 275.5 feet.  This largest plane made its first flight on 21st December 1988. Have a capacity of 600 – 625 tons of weight. The surprising reality of this aircraft is that it is only One of its kind and in world there is only one Antonov An 225 has been made. 32 wheels in the landing gear and 06 engines makes the landing and takeoff respectively. As a matter of fact the Buran Space shuttle was  transported on the upper fuselage. In 2004 it is placed in Guinness Book of World Record for its 240 records.

02- Airbus A380: Nicknamed Superjumbo, a double deck wide bodied aircraft that is definitely not the biggest flying machine of the world but it is definitely the largest passenger airliner of the world.  It is designed to deny the monopoly of the another big passenger airliner, the Boeing and they have rightly done so. It made its first flight on 27th April 2005. It has the biggest passenger count ever. In three divisions of classes it can carry 555 passengers and in all economy class it can carry around 840 passengers. With a wingspan of 261.83 feet and four Rolls Royce engines, and the flying capacity of 560 tons approximately. The first commercial passenger plane was serviced by Singapore Airline and finally Emirates again win the race by getting many.

03- Boeing 747: This is the another passenger plane taking its place at number 3, its an American Aircraft and used all around the world in the airline segment. It is known and famous with the name of the Jumbo Jet or Queen of Skies, its among the recognizable aircraft of the world and was the first in wide bodied aircraft technology. Made its first flight on 09th February, 1969 and holds the passenger capacity record for 37 years. With the wingspan of  195 ft  has a maximum of weight carrying capacity like 333.4 tons. As per the date june 2010 almost 1418 aircraft was built and a hundred in process as per demand from different aircraft carrier.

04- Antonov An 124: Again a Russian and Ukraine made aircraft used all over the world as the Heavy Transporter. This plane made its first flight on 26th December 1982. Wingspan is around 240 ft and the length is around 226 ft. weight carrying capacity is like 405 tons. Its World’s largest ever serially produced cargo airplane and second largest cargo aircraft in operation. Unlike An- 225 it has over 40 aircraft in service.

05- Lockheed C5 Galaxy: Its the heavy transported aircraft that is built by Lockheed USA with the wingspan of 222 ft  and 247 ft long. it is designed to airlift strategical stuff over intercontinental distances. It is in operation with USA Military since 1969 and considered to be Largest Military Aircraft. 

So, i believe that this topic has cleared many doubts regarding the biggest aircrafts flying today. let me add one more to it,

Special Aircraft: 

Hughes H4 Hercules: It is not operational or in service now a days but is the worlds largest ever flying machine it has only made its one flight after which it has never seen the sky again rather is preserved in Evergreen Aviation Museum. its a flying sea plane.  Also known as Spruce goose. It was designed and finally built by Hughes aircraft company and it made its only flight on 01st November, 1947. It has a wingspan of around 97m with with which it still hold the world record.
